Justin Chon mentions about 2NE1!

Some may or may not be familiar with the name, Justin Chon, who is known for his comical roles in popular television series and films such as “Wendy Wu: Homecoming Warrior” and “Twilight.” Either way, this is a good chance to get to know more about this young and talented actor. Despite his busy schedule flying between countries, this rising Korean-American star was able to make some time with Soompi.com for dinner and an exclusive interview. Read on as Justin tells Soompi about “Twilight” and his other upcoming works, as well as a bit of his personal life and his outlook on Asians in the American entertainment industry.

Justin mentions 2ne1 as one of the examples of how far Korean music has come… “they have mad swagger with attitude…we’re no longer the quiet Asians; we’ve stepped it up, no longer can others put us in a box.”

2NE1 ‘I Don’t Care’ wins Mutizen 3 times in a row

Four-girl group 2NE1 has won the Mutizen award on SBS Inkigayo for the third week running.

On the afternoon of August 9th, at SBS Inkigayo’s live broadcast, 2NE1 won the Mutizen award with their album’s hit single, ‘I Don’t Care.’

2NE1 also won the Mutizen before, on July 26th and August 2nd, which means a triple crown for the girls. ‘I Don’t Care’ was also the number one on Inkigayo’s mobile ranking this week.

Leader CL said, “We understand that with 2NE1 being rookies, we are really lucky to have ‘I Don’t Care’ win #1. Thank you to all our fans and everyone who loves us.” Also, CL thanked YG Entertainment and all of 2NE1’s sunbaes, and laughingly said, “The one who remixed today’s version of ‘I Don’t Care’, Baekkyoung oppa, is the best! Thank you very much.”

2NE1 also won first place four times in a row on KBS Music Bank with ‘I Don’t Care’, and have also reached 100K copies in the production of their first mini-album, obviously showing their immense popularity.

Online magazine 10asia published an interview with 2ne1 on August 5. Read on for the translated first half of the interview. The second half will be posted within the week.

10asia (10): As soon as “I Don’t Care” was released, the response was very favourable.
CL: Our practice time is getting longer [nowadays]. We’re focusing on practice because we figured expectations be raised after “I Don’t Care”.

10: It is known that even during your activities [following a release], there’s a lot of rehearsal time and not many stage schedules. Don’t you want to do more [public] activities?
CL: We’re still lacking in practice time. Because we spent several years only in a practice room, it feels odd if we don’t practice.

10: Does the company (YG Entertainment) make you practice that much? (Laughs.)
CL: We feel the need to. There are times when we forget everything that we practiced and just play on stage, [but] then mess up the choreography.

Who’s lollipop is most lickable?

Don’t you just love how companies have resorted to involving food in their products in order for us to buy them? Well the Korean advertisement industry isn’t really any different from the American one in that aspect.

As we all remember, 2NE1 made their first debut with Big Bang for the LG Cyon “Lollipop” phone commercials, which depicts the phones variety of fruity colors and even has a light that blurs pretty colors. Now Dell has somewhat similar themed commercial with their Inspiron laptops that come in all kinds of pretty colors as well.

They both use songs with the main “Lollipop” line, 2NE1 and Big Bang’s being hip-hop while Dell’s is more happy-go-lucky with the 1958 song, “Lollipop” by The Cordettes… but the question is; Whose is sweeter?
